I was featured on Mediacorp’s 狮城有约 (Hello Singapore) – 7 August 2026
On 7 August 2026, I was invited to appear on Mediacorp’s Chinese current affairs programme 狮城有约 (Hello Singapore) to share my journey as a mature student who returned to full-time education at 49.
The segment explored the challenges and rewards of adult learning, featuring my story alongside other mature students. I spoke about why I returned to school, how I used KPOP to bridge the generational gap, and the strategic thinking behind NP Samchoon.

Howard Choy (蔡鐤陹) returned to Ngee Ann Polytechnic at 49 as a full-time Business Studies student, specialising in Marketing. Already a graduate of NUS Psychology, he chose to pivot rather than upgrade — driven by a desire to experience a different life, continue learning, and stay relevant in a changing world.
To bridge the generational gap, he created the persona “NP Samchoon” — using KPOP to connect with younger classmates. His strategy worked so well that he went viral on TikTok. Academically, he excelled: achieving a GPA of 3.76 (out of 4.0), scoring A grades in two modules, and winning a module prize for Brand Insights & Strategies.
He described the biggest barrier to returning as “面子” (face) — the fear of being judged, especially as a former NUS scholar. But he also emphasised that the rewards — confidence, new connections, and a renewed sense of purpose — far outweigh the challenges.
